Please note: we are unable to accept requests for repeat medication over the telephone or via our online consultation tool. Please read this page for details on how to request medication.
If you take a medication regularly, the doctor will usually add it to your list of repeat medications. This makes it easier for you to request more before you run out, without having to see the doctor or another health professional.
We strongly encourage patient to use online services to manage their medication requests.
This allows you to see which medications are on your repeat list and check when you are able to request more.
It also lets you track the status of medication requests you have made, so you know when it is time to go and collect the medication from the pharmacy.
How to request repeat medication
1. Using online services
You can create and log into an NHS account or SystmOnline account via your web browser:

2. In person at the Practice
We have paper request forms available in the Practice foyer, just inside the front door.
Simply note down the medication you need and either hand the form to the receptionist or pop it in the black box in the main reception area.
3. At your chosen Pharmacy
Most community pharmacies are able to request repeat medication on behalf of patients. Please visit or call your chosen pharmacy to discuss this with them.
4. Repeat prescriptions for children aged under 16
If you need to order a prescription for anyone under the age of 16 years old, you can fill out a repeat prescriptions request for under 16s form.
How to check the status of your request
If you use online services, it’s easy to check the status of your medication request:
- NHS App: how to check the status of your request
- SystmOnline or Airmid: how to check the status of your request
Collecting your prescription
We allow up to 72 hours (3 days) to process and approve repeat prescription requests. Where possible, we try to turn requests round much quicker than this.
After this, the request is sent to your chosen pharmacy.
The majority of pharmacies take 3-5 days to process a prescription; however, you should check this with your chosen pharmacy as this may vary.
If your pharmacy takes 3-5 days and we take up to 3 days, this gives an overall turnaround time of up to eight days.
We therefore recommend that you request your repeat medication at least 8 days before your medication is due to run out.
Choosing your pharmacy
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
Find a pharmacyYou can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your chosen pharmacy can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

What to do with old medicines
If you have medication that you no longer need, please take these to the pharmacy you got them from. If this is not possible, please take them to another pharmacy.
The pharmacy can ensure that the medication is disposed of safely.
Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
